Watch a small Quicktime movie [588kB].

My friend Tim loaned me a few of his MJF Rabbit host boards, so I made a little news ticker. This scrolls the latest headlines from various news sources on a quaint little LED display. The latest version lets you flip the big switch to toggle between headlines from CNN and the BBC (which I tend to prefer).

This works by grabbing an RSS feed of headlines from websites (Dave Jacoby has a great repository of feeds for news sites that don't provide their own). It then scrolls the headlines across a grid of LEDs. Just plug it into a power outlet and a DHCP network. It is controlled by a Rabbit RCM2200 microprocessor running some simple code.

Here's the source code. For more fun take a gander at Brian Gaeke's discussion of HTTP by telnet-ing to port 80.

Admittedly it can be a bit hard to read, but it is still kind of fun to have on the wall. Thanks Tim!
